3 of my favorite quotes and 1 song lyric...
With school lurking around the corner, I am mentally gearing up for the next semester. I happen to have several Pinterest boards dedicated to quotes, verses, and song lyrics that I love. I have screenshots galore of quotes that inspire me. I decided to share a few of my favorites! So here we go.
"If you're going to experience joy, you must choose it - in spite of, even if, and in the middle of
everything else."
I spotted this first quote on Instagram a while ago and I love it. The quote comes from Kay Warren's book, "Choose Joy: Because Happiness isn't Enough". I have yet to read the book, but this quote spoke to me and continues to encourage me. Everyone has something they are going through, but despite our circumstances we have to choose joy. There is a definite difference between joy and happiness. Happiness comes and goes, but true joy is found in Jesus. We can always find joy in Him in spite of what may be happening, even if the weight of the world is on our shoulders and in the middle of any situation. He offers lasting joy.
"Comparison is the thief of joy".
This second quote pertains to a lesson that I continue to learn. In our world, comparing yourself to others is such an easy action. For me personally, I often compare myself, my life, my achievements, and many other things. These 6 words constantly remind me that comparing myself can take away the joy the Lord has given. When we waste time comparing ourselves to others, we forget the blessings we have and who God has created us to be. I don't see anything wrong with wanting to improve yourself or aim for personal goals, but all of that should be done for the right reason. Keeping this quote in mind has truly kept my mindset in the right place.
"I am not alone. You will go before me, You will never leave me."
I absolutely love the song "I Am Not Alone" by Kari Jobe. The simplicity in the chorus carries a powerful punch of truth. I am never alone because God is always with me. I can walk with confidence into my future or any situation because I know that God has gone before me. Knowing that I can walk in confidence and actually walking are two different things. I think we all can agree one is easier said than done. Every time I hear this song I am reminded that, no matter what circumstance I walk into, God has already been there and He has ordered my steps.
"Whatever the challenge, Whatever the test, Whatever you're striving for, Give it your best."
This last quote comes straight from a poster that used to hang on my mother's wall. I loved that my mother shared these words of encouragement with me and later gave me the poster. Along with these words on the poster is a female gymnast on a balance beam. I LOVE gymnastics and am truly inspired by their hard work and dedication. You can often find me in the middle of a floor pretending to perform my floor exercise. Anyway, I often recite this quote in my mind. During the school year, throughout difficult projects or while preparing for a test, these words are helpful. Give everything your best shot and don't let fear stand in your way. In the words of Steven Curtis Chapman,
"Do everything you do to the glory of the one who made you
'Cause He made you
To do every little thing that you do to bring a smile to his face and tell the story of grace
With every move that you make and every little thing you do."
I encourage you to go listen to this song. I love it!
So, that is it for my first Wednesday Words of Encouragement.
Let me know what your favorite quotes and/or song lyrics are in the comments section.
Until next time, thanks for reading!
